The planned open air “Churches Together Service of Worship at Godalming Bandstand” relocated to the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul’s due to the rain. Despite the rain it was a delightful experience to be redirecting attendees from the Bandstand whilst listening to the wonderful pealing of the bells, to welcome us all back to church.
The Rev James Rattue, Rector of St John’s Farncombe welcomed the congregation to this ecumenical service of Worship and lead us in the opening prayers and hymns. Catherine Lawton, a Deacon at Godalming Baptist Church read Psalm 93 and The Rev Andy Spencer, from Busbridge Church, preached the Sermon taking as his theme the Olympic Games and the lessons we have learnt from the perseverance of the Athletes and Rev Margot Spencer led the congregation in the prayers of Intersession. Cannon John Harkin the Priest in Charge of St Peter and St Paul’s gave the final blessing.
Over a hundred members of the Churches in Godalming and District attended the service which was so uplifting with the singing once again filling the church and you could just feel the joy and thanksgiving flowing out from each and every one gathered in prayer and fellowship.
The Cellar Camino Café provided welcome refreshments after the service which gave further opportunity to meet up and chat. What a lovely way to spend a wet Sunday morning.
